Hello,

My name is Shauna Atkinson, or Ms. Atkinson.  The first class I subbed last year the students called me Ms. A. as shown in the cover picture of this blog. 

Some things about me, I like Hello Kitty, coffee, and wear glasses that were mostly for reading, but now I seem to need them more and more.  I recently got sunglasses as well. 

I was recently hired as a Math Teacher at Glacier High School Charter.  I am teaching part time while I get my credential and masters degree.  I am currently teaching Geometry and Algebra 2.  I am spending most of my time prepping for those courses as you can see in the picture below. It is important to have the right tools and if you can, make it fun and enjoyable with your favorite characters or colors.

I obtained my Bachelor degree from Fresno State in Civil Engineering.  I worked in the field of civil engineering for over ten years.  I am a Registered Civil Engineer.  However, I have decided to get my Credential and teach math to students who may otherwise be struggling or who also may want to some day be engineers or work in some other math related field.  I had excellent math teachers in school and want to give back.

 

My Personality test revealed my personality type to be very close to ESTP and ESTJ a close second.  I took the personality test at http://www.teamtechnology.co.uk/ for those who would like to take it as well.

 

ESTP If your closest personality type is ESTP then you are an action oriented problem solver. You enjoy getting things done, and taking action to solve practical problems. ESTJ If your closest personality type is ESTJ then you want the world to be well run and well organized. You are keenly aware of the need for structure in a situation, such as the roles and responsibilities that people have. If there are no established processes or procedures, or in a situation of chaos, then you will introduce a logical organization and structure into the way things are done. You are likely to be businesslike and professional in your manner.

 

I think that my desire to get things done and to have order will help me greatly in the classroom and be an effective teacher.  I very much look forward to learning more and more about becoming a great teacher and leader for my students.
